5 Proven Ways to Eat Healthy and Feel Amazing

DO YOU WANT TO GET HEALTHY AND FEEL AMAZING?

5-ways-eat-healthy-feel-amazingOf course you do! Who couldn’t stand to feel a little more amazing?! But are we really in control of our health and preventing disease?
If so…where do we even start?
Luckily I’ve spent way too many hours finding the answers for you.
These 5 steps won’t be the only things you’ll need on your journey to feeling great, but they’re a damn good start!

1. GET REAL WITH YOURSELF AND FIGURE OUT WHY

Why do you want to feel better?
Are you exhausted at work? Has picking up your kids become difficult with all those aches and pains? Do you want to lose some weight and feel better in your own skin?
All of these are incredibly motivating if they’re true for you.
The easiest way to fail is not knowing why you’re trying in the first place.
So many of us think we should be healthy and that it’s the right thing to do…but that’s not going to keep you going when a donut looks a lot better than that avocado you brought to work.

Get out a pen and paper-old school, I know.
Just do it and trust the process.
Now, jot down 1-5 reasons why you want to get your health back and what it will mean if you do.

Personally, waking up exhausted after 8-10 hours of sleep and always feeling depleted of energy SUCKED. Big time.
My constant fatigue kept me from enjoying my relationships and I missed out on all of the things that I used to love doing.
Getting healthy meant I could enjoy my life and stop missing out!

Figure out your why and let’s talk about what the eff to do about it…

2. EAT REAL FOOD

It’s hard to figure out which foods are healthy these days. With a million fad diets and companies labeling junk food as “healthy” and “natural,” it’s downright confusing.
Here’s what it boils down to:
The food you eat should be grown or raised-that means vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, and non-conventional eggs and meat.
Shop the perimeter of your grocery store and stick to the basics.
The less processed your food is, the easier it is for your body to use it-aka you feel better.

3. CUT THE SUGAR AND THE JUNK

Soda, sugary products, and processed and packaged foods are some of the largest contributors to disease today…
Right alongside smoking, drugs, and chronic alcohol abuse.
I know these foods taste good, and I know they’re near impossible to give up. But did you know there’s a scientific reason why?!
Sugar is 8 times more addictive than cocaine.

EIGHT. TIMES. MORE. ADDICTIVE.

Insane, right?!
It’s incredibly f$^#&* up! These giant processed food manufacturers are literally feeding our addictions to keep us hooked.
Quitting these foods is no easy task. But you will feel and function 100 times better.
If that’s not worth it, I don’t know what is.
Real food should not come in a package. This product stuff was better named “edible food-like substance” by Michael Pollan, and contributes more to disease than health.
IF you eat packaged foods from time to time (I get it…I’m human too) look at the ingredient label-if there are words you don’t recognize, added sugar, or more than a few ingredients…
Ditch the food and move on.

4. EAT PLENTY OF FATS

Does it seem crazy that fats are good for you? Luckily, keto and high fat diets are becoming popular, making this a more familiar concept.
But it wasn’t that long ago that we all thought non-fat and low-fat were not only good choices, but the healthiest choices.
Turns out, that was never even close to true.
*nerd alert*
Ancel Keys was a big-time nutrition researcher who studied dietary fat and heart disease. He desperately wanted to prove that eating fat caused heart disease.
Turns out…his results disagreed with his desires
Instead of publishing the real results, this guy lied and cut out any data that didn’t agree with what he wanted to study to prove.
Yikes!
Unfortunately, our government doesn’t always have our back.
The FDA’s recommendations allowed us to follow these “healthy eating” guidelines for 50+ years all based on some guy’s ego and massively false data.

FATS ARE HEALTHY

Your brain needs fat, your nerves need fat, your entire body needs fat.
Eat healthy fats: avocados, wild caught fish (for all those omega-3 fats), avocado oil, olive oil, grass-fed butter, ghee, coconut oil, coconut meat and butter, nuts, grass-fed beef and eggs
Avoid unhealthy fats: Trans-fats, margarine, processed foods, refined vegetable oils, oils heated in fryers (sorry guys, fries don’t count as your veggies for the day)

5. DRINK ALL OF THE WATER

Being dehydrated is one of the fastest ways to feel exhausted and lethargic so drink up, my friends!
Drink filtered water and try to avoid water in plastic bottles (even BPA-free)

 As a general rule:
Drink half of your weight (pounds) in ounces Every. Single. Day.
If you are moving around a lot, exercising, or sweating a ton-increase your intake.
Take your weight in pounds and divide by 2!
If you weigh 150lbs-drink at least 75oz/day
If you weigh 220lbs-drink at least 110oz/day

TO WRAP THINGS UP:

Eating healthy and feeling amazing is simple, but it takes some work.
Get clear on your why, eat real foods, avoid the junk, don’t be afraid of fat, and stay hydrated.

You’re going to feel amazing in no time!
